There are five key changes the Conservatives will seek to deliver locally:
The government is pressing ahead with their plan to close of our 24hr A&E unit and women & childrens services at Chase Farm Hospital. We will continue to lead the campaign against this programme of cuts. The general election presents a clear chice between the Conservative Party that will implement a moratorium on the cuts to services, and a Labour Party that will press ahead with the cuts.
Crime and anti-social behaviour are worrying problems for our area. Violent crime has doubled in the UK in ten years. Over 1,000 people are victims for violent crime locally every year. In addtion to seeing more police on the beat preventing crime, we need to end the 'caution culture' in the criminal justice system where offenders are often then free to commit crime again.
Living costs and unemployment are hitting families hard, with prices rising for food and the cost of motoring. Gordon Brown has been increasing taxes on the lowest paid, fuel duty has gone through the roof . Local average disposable income has fallen , unemployment is rising faster here than elsewhere meaning real pressure on hard pressed families. Reducing taxes and stopping the Government's extreme public borrowing are key to future economic success for us all.
Post Office Closures have hit local people hard - particularly the elderly and those without transport. Gordon Brown’s closure of three local Post Offices have hit local communities hard. We must ensure that government helps post offices survive not close them down.
Local Transport has seen terrible under investment. Enfield train services do not get their fair share of carriages from the rail operators and we have to battle for a better deal from Enfield commuters. I believe that we should campaign for the so called NGAR ( Northern Gateway Access Road) program rejected by Labour for a link road between the M25 and Mollision Avenue in the east of the borough which will provide vital transport links down our industrial eastern corridor and ease the blight of up to 3000 HGV's an hour passing within feet of residents home on Bullsmoor Lane.
